On May 15, 2025, Coinbase announced that it experienced a massive data breach involving sensitive personal information.
Coinbase admitted that the data stolen included government-issued identity documents, last four digits of Social Security numbers, postal and email addresses, masked bank account numbers and identifiers, and account balance and transaction data.
Attackers used this information to impersonate Coinbase Support in order to trick customers into handing over their crypto. Additionally, Personally Identifiable Information (PII) may have been sold on the dark web where cybercriminals can piece together stolen data to perpetrate targeted scams.
If your data was stolen, you may suffer serious financial harm, ID theft, and other long-term consequences that can affect you for the rest of your life.
We are a consumer protection law firm that holds large companies accountable for legal violations against consumers. Victims of the Coinbase data breach that live in Illinois are eligible to sign up for arbitration that will be filed against Coinbase for failing to properly protect customers’ data.
Anyone who currently lives in Illinois and is a current or former Coinbase customer.
You are signing up for what’s known as “arbitration.” Arbitration, often required by the company itself, is when a person files a claim with an arbitrator to resolve outside of court, such as a data breach or unfair business practice. Arbitration is meant to be faster and more efficient than the court system.
It costs you nothing to sign up. There are no out-of-pocket costs to you.
Though not guaranteed, you could receive up to $1,000 or more.
No. You can only be compensated for a claim once. If you sign up for more than one you risk not receiving any money.
Mass arbitration is meant to be a faster and more efficient alternative to a class action lawsuit in the court system. Mass arbitrations typically pay victims significantly more than a class action. In arbitration, your claim is not lumped together with millions of other peoples’ claims.
A typical consumer class action can take 2-3 years and pay an average of only $32 while a successful arbitration often pays hundreds or more than $1000 in less time.
